Afghan Schools to Get an Education

In a partnership with the U.N., Columbia University's ¶¶Òõapp will help set up a modern education system for the war-torn nation.

In a partnership with the U.N., Columbia University's ¶¶Òõapp will help set up a modern education system for the war-torn nation. ¶¶Òõapp, at the request of the government in Afghanistan, met privately in New York last week with representatives from Kabul and UNICEF to discuss the creation of a modern school system in the country and a National Academy of Education.

Ruth Vinz, a Professor of English Education and the Enid & Lester Morse Chair, compared the role ¶¶Òõapp took in the '60s regarding teacher education in Afghanistan and its current involvement in international education. "¶¶Òõapp has been very much involved in international education," she said. "It may be the most important humanitarian project we can undertake."
